Virginia buttonweed

Diodia virginiana

Virginia buttonweed (Diodia virginiana) is a perennial herbaceous plant commonly found in lawns and turfgrass, particularly in the southeastern United States. It has a prostrate, spreading growth habit, with thick, dark green leaves arranged opposite each other on the stem.

The plant produces small, white, star-shaped flowers, often with pink streaks, that are located in the axils of the leaves. Each flower eventually forms a seed capsule resembling a small button, which contains seeds with a high germination rate. Virginia buttonweed spreads through its seeds, as well as through rooting stem fragments and taproots, and can grow in both wet and drought-prone soils
